After a hiatus in California, I'm finally back in the blogging business. I got back to NYC just before New Year's, and spent New Year's Eve sitting at home waiting for something horrible to engulf the city. Evidently I wasn't the only one. I happened to be watching MTV just after midnight, which was broadcasting live from Times Square. Every time they cut to someone, the first words out of their mouth seemed to be "We're still here!" or "Happy New Year! We made it!" as if they had been fairly certain they wouldn't. Of course, as one of my more jaded friends put it, even if Times Square had gone up in flames, no New Yorker would dare admit that they had even noticed since the whole thing is for tourists anyway.
